Siskiyou Iris – Iris bracteata is uncommon and native to the Siskiyou Mountains in Southern Oregon and Northern California. It has pale yellow flowers with noticeable maroon veins and grows singly or paired on a stem enclosed with short, overlapping bracts. The stems are erect, with broad graceful leaves. It grows in shade, on serpentine, below 2500 ft.
There were so many of these beautiful blooms in the forest at the side of the roads returning from a Rogue River trip one early June, I had to try and paint them.
